spaghetti, 4/19
Thursday’s class really helped me understand the reading a lot better. After reviewing my notes and the things we talked about in class and re reading the essay, i was able to gain a more complete picture of what the author was talking about. The notion of our society as fixated on surveillance and not spectacle really spoke to me. I've never really thought about it like that. Now that this idea has been pointed out to me, examples in pop culture and in my everyday encounters seem to illustrate this idea more. This was especially brought to light after in class every student was able to come up with at least on way in which he or she had encountered surveillance in the past 24 hours. I never thought about media outlets such as the news as a form of surveillance, when in fact, it is one of the best examples of the concept. The news reports on other mechanisms of surveillance such as cameras which capture criminal activities. Big Brother truly always is watching in our society and we have become to desensitized to it that it doesn’t seem unnatural at all.

I am glad class got you thinking about certain thinks that you never realized before. However, this post is too short.
