Weezy27/4-29

Yesterday's class was quite the experience I must say. The exercise was interesting because all the men were asked not to speak and the women were told to carry a class discussing gender roles in society. I don't think that I am personally very effected by gender roles in today's society. I feel this way most likely because I am kind of a go with the flow type of person. Many of the women in class yesterday talked a lot about standing up for what they believe and being very outspoken. To a degree, I do the same, but I don't find it necessary to attack others in defense of myself. I agreed a lot with what Jen said. She said that growing up she viewed her as one of the guys and never noticed herself as a lesser person than them because of her gender. She said that if men are given the permission to treat a woman poorly then a sexist circumstance may occur.

I also found it quite strange that nearly none of the men wanted to say anything or contribute any ideas to the conversation. Maybe they felt out numbered? Or maybe they felt that their ideas would be attacked? Subsequently, if the men in the classroom did feel outnumbered or afraid to speak their minds were they getting a piece of the oppression that some women may feel when trying to speak in front of a group of men.

You make some good comments. You could have gone further with your thoughts though.
